Old Fashioned – The ultimate Bourbon classic, easily mixed

recipe.header.titleBig

The Old Fashioned is the absolute Bourbon classic among cocktails and a must-have for any home bar. As a hobbyist with a penchant for timeless flavors, I love the complexity of this drink, which comes without any bells and whistles. All you need for this legendary drink are high-quality, fresh ingredients that perfectly complement each other. A good Bourbon forms the heart of the drink, while a hint of sugar and aromatic bitters provide depth. It is a wonderfully simple and quick recipe that you can whip up in minutes without any pre-made mixes. If you are wondering how to mix the perfect long drink at home, this classic is the ideal starting point. Grab a nice glass, take a moment, and enjoy the golden color and the deep, slightly sweet taste. The secret lies in the quality of the ingredients and the patience while stirring – that's how you create pure indulgence that you simply deserve after a long day. Try it out; it's really child's play and tastes like it's from a first-class bar!

Ingredients

Bourbon Whiskey
60  ml
Sugar cube
1
Angostura Bitters
2  dashes
Water
1  tsp
Ice cubes
4
Orange peel
1

Preparation

1

Place the sugar cube (1) into a heavy whiskey glass along with the water (1 tsp) and Angostura Bitters (2 dashes).

2

Crush the sugar with a spoon in the glass until it has almost completely dissolved – a small step that gives the drink its soul.

3

Now add the Bourbon Whiskey (60 ml) and fill the glass with ice cubes (4).

4

Stir gently for about 30 seconds so the drink reaches the perfect temperature without diluting it too much.

5

Finally, squeeze the fresh orange peel (1) over the glass to release the essential oils, and then add it to the drink as a garnish.
